Georgian Parliament’s speaker: Elections in Tskhinvali not legitimate

The so-called presidential elections held in the Tskhinvali region cannot be considered legitimate according to international norms, Georgian Parliament Speaker David Bakradze said at a meeting of the Bureau on Tuesday.
He said there has been no precedent in the world which recognised the legitimacy of the elections against a backdrop of ethnic cleansing.
"The only way to recognise the legitimacy of the activities carried out there is the return of IDPs to their homes and also the occupied regions to Georgia," Bakradze said.

According to preliminary data of re-elections held on March ۲۵ in the breakaway region of South Ossetia, the second round will be held, in which Leonid Tibilov and David Sanakoev will participate. The breakaway region's Central Election Commission made this statement on Monday.

According to preliminary data, which is based on the results of all the protocols, former chief of the KGB, Leonid Tibilov leads in the first round by a big margin with ۴۲.۴۸ per cent of votes, but it was not enough for his final victory as it was necessary to gain support of more than half the votes.

Some ۲۴.۵۸ per cent of votes were in favour of a special representative on human rights David Sanakoyev, who will fight against Tibilov after ۱۵ days, presumably, on April ۸ in the second round of elections.
